The Elkton City Council met in special session on Monday, September 26, 2011 with Mayor Nancy T. Camp presiding. <\/span>

City Council members present: Jimmy Scott; Danny Laster; David Powell; Eugene Jefferson; and, Doug Gibson. <\/span><\/span>

City Council members absent: Cindy Sidebottom. <\/span><\/span>

Others present: City Clerk\/Treasurer Laura Brock; Mike Baker and Eston Glover, Todd County Industrial Foundation; Catherine Darnell, Todd County Standard; and, Adam May, WHOP Radio. <\/span><\/span>

Mayor Camp called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM and reminded everyone this was a special called meeting and only items on the agenda can be discussed. <\/span><\/span>

AGENDA <\/span><\/span>

1. Todd County Industrial Foundation <\/span><\/span>
2. 1st Reading Ordinance 2011-12 \u2013 Fixing Ad Valorem Tax Rates for 2011 <\/span>

Mayor Camp welcomed Mike Baker and Eston Glover to the meeting. She stated that the council wanted to invite members of the Todd County Industrial Foundation to the meeting to find out what is going on in Elkton and to ask any questions. Mike Baker explained the creation of the Foundation and that they meet almost monthly. At each meeting a financial statement and minutes of meetings are presented. Mr. Baker also gives an update verbally and in writing of activity each month. Mr. Baker explained funding support to the Foundation, including the county contribution, $25,000; Guthrie, $15,000; Trenton, $250; TVA, $20,000 (with additional grant support of about $35,000); and Pennyrile Electric, $5,000. Mr. Baker stated that in the last few years, Flexcon and Refine Tile have made significant investments in Elkton and employ about 125-135 employees. Also, both of these companies expect expansions in the near future. There have been four other announcements in the county since Hemlock located in Clarksville. Also, Martin Industries in Elkton has expanded by purchasing an additional six acres. Council members suggested they need more updates from the Foundation as to what is going on in Elkton and asked if there been any visits to Elkton. Mr. Baker stated that Mayor Camp is a member of the Foundation, but if any council members wanted to be on the Foundation or attend the meetings, it could possibly be worked out. Mr. Baker stated there have been no visits to Elkton. There was concern that all the visits and recommendations for locating in Todd County are going to south Todd County and no one is being shown locations in Elkton. Mr. Baker stated that south Todd is in a great location being close to I-24, two railroad tracks and being close to a large city. After discussion, Mr. Baker thanked the council and left the meeting. <\/span><\/span>

Clerk Brock read first reading of Ordinance 2011-12, \u201cAN ORDINANCE FIXING THE AD VALOREM TAX RATE UPON THE ASSESSED VALUATION OF REAL ESTATE, PERSONAL PROPERTY, MOTOR VEHICLES AND WATERCRAFT WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF ELKTON, KENTUCKY, FOR THE YEAR 2011.\u201d Mr. Powell motioned to accept after first reading and seconded by Mr. Laster. Motion carried unanimously by show of hands. <\/span><\/span>

There were no further items on the agenda, therefore Mr. Jefferson motioned to adjourn and seconded by Mr. Laster. Motion carried unanimously and meeting adjourned at approximately 6:25 PM.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
