UPDATE: The deadline to purchase fire department memberships has been extended to September 30, 2015.
(August 2015):Elkton Volunteer Fire Department is now accepting annual membership dues from property owners in the Elkton Fire Service Area who do not live in the city limits of Elkton. Participation in the Elkton Volunteer Fire Department Membership Program shall entitle out-of-town property owners to waive the fees for response to fires and emergencies. If an out-of-town property owner, who is in the Elkton Fire Service Area, chooses not to pay the membership fee and the EVFD responds to a fire or other emergency on the property, the City will bill the property owner up to $1,000.00.
Property owners who live in the city limits of Elkton are already covered by the Elkton Volunteer Fire Department and do not need to pay membership dues. Property owners, outside the city limits, may pay the city of Elkton an annual membership fee in the amount of $45.00. Memberships for the 2015/2016 year are due by August 31, 2015 and will be for the period September 1, 2015 to August 31, 2016.
Paying membership dues ensures that a property owner will not be billed by the Elkton Volunteer Fire Department for responding to a fire or emergency. The revenue generated by dues will be used to improve the fire department and continue work to help improve fire ratings both in the city limits and in the county.
If you feel you should have received a notice but did not get one in the mail, you can contact Elkton City Hall at (270) 265-9877 or drop by City Hall, 71 Public Square, and verify your address on the fire district map.
