Todd County represented in donated $400,000 Kentucky State Capitol pendentive murals

ELKTON, Ky., (May 17, 2010) Todd County, Kentucky will be permanently represented in the rotunda of the Kentucky State Capitol after a project to complete the dome pendentive murals was announced by First Lady Jane Beshear last week.

A donation by Terry & Marion Forcht of Corbin, Kentucky funded the two year project and the four murals will be revealed on June 4th & 5th in a two-day celebration, in time for the 100 year celebration of the Kentucky State Capitol building. The Jefferson Davis Monument, a Todd County landmark, is represented in the mural named, “Civitas, the light of progress.” A description of the mural establishes that the monument was represented in the mural to commemorate Kentucky’s participation in the United States Civil War. The public is invited to participate in the unveiling of the murals. Invitations to the June 4th gala event are being mailed this week.
