Elkton Police Department Employment Opportunities

       The City of Elkton, Kentucky is accepting applications for the positions of Chief of Police, Police Officer and Police Officer Recruit.

      Chief of Police is a sworn law enforcement officer; manages and directs all functions and operations of the Police Department; work in this class involves responsibility for exercising administrative leadership and supervising all police functions of the city, including planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating all activities and programs of the department, including patrol, traffic, criminal investigation, and related activities and services; and, must have successfully completed required basic training. The Chief of Police works under the general administrative direction of the mayor. The minimum starting pay for Chief of Police is currently $24.55 per hour, plus $1.92 per hour KLEFPF incentive pay, and other benefits including complete coverage of employee’s health, dental and life insurance.

      Police Officer is a sworn law enforcement officer, performs general police work in the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, investigation of crimes, etc.; performs related work as required; and, must have successfully completed required basic training. The minimum starting pay for a Police Officer is currently $18.27 per hour, plus $1.92 per hour KLEFPF incentive pay, and other benefits including complete coverage of employee’s health, dental and life insurance.

      Police Officer Recruits are newly employed police personnel who have not completed the required basic training and shall serve in the Police Officer Recruit class until they have completed basic training (including required field training); after completion of required training, and subject to the recommendation of the Chief of Police, Police Officer Recruits may be promoted to the Police Officer classification. The minimum starting pay for a Police Officer Recruit is currently $16.72 per hour, with other benefits including complete coverage of employee’s health, dental and life insurance.

      Chief of Police, Police Officer, and Police Officer Recruit must have graduated from high school or equivalent; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky; must meet the job-related physical and psychological requirements in effect at the time of appointment; and must pass any job-related mental, psychological and/or physical qualifying examinations, including screening tests for illegal drug use and alcohol use is required prior to employment after an offer for employment is made and during employment with the city.
