The City of Elkton is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Worker I position in the Utility/Street Department. Applicants begin as Maintenance Worker I position with starting wage of $16.72 per hour. The city also provides other benefits including complete coverage of employee’s health, dental and life insurance.
Employees generally begin as Maintenance Worker I, and may qualify for promotion after receipt of Class II Water Distribution License at which time they may then qualify for Maintenance Worker II position with hourly wage of $18.27. Position performs manual skilled and semi-skilled work of routine and moderate difficulty in the construction, installation, maintenance and/or cleanliness of the wastewater treatment plant, wastewater collection system, water distribution system, and parks; assists with maintaining and cleaning streets, roads, and sidewalks; and, performs related work as required. Work is physically demanding, involving heavy lifting, shoveling, digging, etc. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Mayor.
Applicants must be a high school graduate or have a GED and have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Screening tests for illegal drug use is required prior to employment after an offer for employment is made and during employment with the city.
